The bride, Inderdeep Kaur Raina, shares her beautiful destination wedding experiences with us:

“We met in Sri Venkateshwara College ten years ago, and I remember seeing him at the college gate wearing a blue shirt (my favourite colour) and the light hitting his face. It was sort of filmy but it wasn’t love at first sight. Our relationship slowly bloomed into friendship first and then into love over time. We are opposites’ who are similar in many ways. I guess if you can’t live without the guy or girl, you marry them, it's simple that way. The best kind of relationships are built on friendship and love, the secret is to go through it all, the good, the bad and the ugly but the most important thing is to never let go. For us, we grew up together, we are each other’s companions and much more.”

“Planning the event was hectic, with COVID cases rising. Hence, the resort originally booked for April, had to be pushed for June. We had many last-minute changes to the finer details, like decor due to unavailability! The Anand Karaj was meant to host 50 people but it got reduced to 20. Nonetheless, we pulled it off and enjoyed it completely!”

Location choice: 

Kartikeya and Inderdeep hosted their wedding at Suryavilas Luxury Resort and Spa in Solan. She tells us,

“We planned an intimate wedding in the hills Suryavilas, Solan).

Kartikeya and I share an obsession with the hills since I grew up in Shimla and so we drew on that familiarity. The destination was a perfect fit for the number of guests and the scenery was breathtaking. The greenery always makes everything look better.”

• ‍Traditions: Since we had a Gurudwara wedding, it was important to keep it easy the night before the wedding. To lighten up the mood, a Dholki was sent to the bride's house before the procession. In a Punjabi wedding, the first function has to be a Sangeet/ Cocktail, as it sets the tone for the rest of the functions. We danced our hearts out and I doubt anyone slept that night. The most exciting function was the Jaggo Night as the girls' side got a chance to showcase their traditional Sikh Punjabi culture along with fun games about the Bride and Groom. 

A tip: Don't forget to eat at your wedding and keep a band-aid handy, you might need one.

• Style: It was a fluid harmony of Hindu and Sikh cultures with a minimalist twist. Festivities included the Jaimala and Mangulsutra ceremonies as well as Sikh ceremonies in chic outfits and decor. Although there were pops of colour, gold was the focal point of the style.
